Cube reporting does not have a Sort field, instead it uses dimensions. A dimension is a code field and its related values and descriptions. It can represent areas and places such as states, regions , and cities and it can represent items such as brands, parts, tiers, etc. When you get your cube report you can sort your dimensions in columns or rows and in any order you like. You can activate the lookup for the dimensions by clicking in one of the green fields and then clicking the glyph on the right.
When I run the cube, I very rarely use the select field because you can de-select data you don’t want when you are in the cube viewer. For example, I selected Tier as one of the dimensions and when I run the report I will be able to un-check tiers that I don’t want to see in the report. In this particular report you can also select the measures that will be in the cube. Other cube reports, the cube will come with a standard set of dimensions for the particular cube report. So, because I have selected On hand, Available, Std Cost, and Price, these will be the only available measures in the cube report. In this report, if you select certain measures you will be required to fill out another field as well. For example, I chose H which is the price measure, since i I chose that measure I have to select a price class to display in the report because the report is only designed to display one price class at a time. If you choose X, which is sales in the last X days, you will be required to tell the system the # of days you want it to look for sales. Once you make the dimensions selection and the measures and price class, stream your cube. You can add more dimension then I did than the ones selected on the screen below. The more dimensions you add the more flexibility you will have in viewing your report.
When you run the cube it will look like this:
Now you can begin to play around modifying by dragging and dropping your dimensions into rows and columns. See screenshot below for working in the cube: Image RemovedNImage Added Now, to remove certain things from your cube, you will need to click on the glyph in one of the dimensions. For example, in this report I only want to see non wine items so I marked the wine product group with a red X. A red X completely removes it from the report and a green check mark includes it. There is also a blue X but that is rarely used. Basically it keeps the cases and dollars in the report but it removes the field name. After you have de-selected the wine product group, select the green check mark at the bottom right corner to accept your changes.
Now, if you want any other of your dimensions displayed in your report you can add it under the existing row dimension or add it to the column. In this case, I am going to drop the tier dimension underneath the part dimension so that it sorts by part and then by tier. Drag Tier below Part and then hit the + above the total by columns to expand the report to show the tier. Once you expand it, the + will be replace with a – so that you can shrink it again if necessary.
If you would like to remove any of the default measures, select the greek sum key at the bottom of the screen and mark the measure you don't want displayed on your report with a red X.
Once you are happy with your report then you can either send it to excel or create the typical AMS arf file. If you use the excel button to send to excel, the formatting will be exactly like what you see in the cube viewer, colors and all, it will also take longer to download. If you send it in data it will be less formatted and sheet even less formatted than data. I prefer data but try them all and see what you like best.
If you use Data to send to excel, this is what your report will look like:
